About us

UK Deed Poll Bureau editorial team

Guides on this site are published under the UK Deed Poll Bureau editorial team byline. This page explains the sources we rely on, how content is maintained, and the limits of our expertise.

Our editorial standards

Our editorial policy prioritises primary UK government and regulator sources where practical — usually GOV.UK, nidirect, National Records of Scotland, HMCTS or the relevant public-register guidance. A review date is shown only when a substantive check has actually taken place.

Primary sources

We cite UK government and regulator sources first. Claims about acceptance, costs or processes trace back to a primary source — we avoid generalisations such as "all UK organisations accept" without evidence.

Source verification

Important claims about procedure, eligibility and fees are checked against primary sources during substantive updates. Unverified research claims are not treated as ranking content.

Freshness discipline

Review dates are not automatically refreshed. When a page displays a review date, it should reflect a real substantive check rather than a cosmetic freshness update.

Who writes our guides

We use an organisational editorial-team byline rather than inventing individual expert credentials. We do not claim that a guide has been reviewed by a solicitor or other regulated legal professional unless a real, named qualified reviewer has actually carried out that review.

We are not solicitors and the content on this site is general information, not legal advice. If your situation is unusual (for example, a court order is in place, or you are an overseas national with a complex immigration status), the Law Society can help you find a regulated solicitor.

Corrections and feedback

If you spot an error in one of our guides — or have a sources-based improvement — please write to us. We update our guides in response to reader feedback and to changes in the law.
