After you change your name

Change your name with subscription services

Last reviewed August 2026UK Deed Poll Bureau Editorial Team3 min read

General UK name-change information, not individual legal advice. Requirements can vary by organisation and UK jurisdiction; where a decision matters, check the relevant official guidance.

Streaming, software, delivery and membership subscriptions usually hold an account name and a billing name tied to your payment card. After a name change, update the account name and the saved card so the two stay consistent.

What to update

  • The account holder name in each service's profile settings.
  • The saved card or direct debit billing name.
  • The billing address if it has also changed.

Account name vs billing name

Many services let you set a display or delivery name separately from the billing name. For billing to keep working smoothly, the billing name should match the name on the card or bank account you use to pay.

Frequently asked questions

Do subscription services need my legal name?▼

Most services ask for the account holder name and a billing name on the payment card. These should match your bank or card name to avoid payment problems, but a service does not usually need a separate legal name update.

What about Amazon, Netflix and similar services?▼

Update the account holder name and the billing address in your account settings. If the card name has changed, update the saved card so the billing name matches.

Will a name mismatch cause billing failures?▼

It can. If the name on the card and the name the service holds differ, some payments are declined. Update both the service and your bank/card at around the same time to keep them aligned.
